The International Accreditation Forum (IAF) is a global organization that brings together accreditation bodies and other relevant entities with an interest in conformity assessment. Its focus is on various aspects of conformity assessment, including management systems, products, processes, services, personnel, validation, verification, and similar programs. The IAF serves as a platform for collaboration and exchange of knowledge among its members on a worldwide scale.
The National Accreditation Council was established under Presidential Decree No. 312 of 1996 with the aim of becoming the sole national authority in the Arab Republic of Egypt responsible for evaluating and accrediting evaluation and conformity assessment bodies. These bodies include testing and calibration laboratories, inspection bodies, certification bodies for quality management systems, medical analysis laboratories, product certification bodies, providers of technical competence testing services, certification bodies for individuals, halal certification bodies, forensic medicine laboratories, and bio-banks.
Subsequently, Presidential Decree No. 248 of 2006 was issued to reorganize the National Accreditation Council, granting it technical, administrative, and financial independence to assess and accredit evaluation and conformity assessment bodies in Egypt. The authority is bestowed upon the National Accreditation Council by the state.
The National Accreditation Council is a governmental entity under the supervision of the Ministry of Trade and Industry, and it operates on a non-profit basis.
